TCS Interview Series- Part 2

Hello all, this is Interview Series of TCS where you will get to Know Interview Experience of Students who have given TCS Interview and this will help you to learn from their experience and will help you to guide yourself on how to prepare how the Interviews. This is the second blog article on TCS Interview Experience Series if you have not read the first article you can check it here.

One can get selected by TCS either by CodeVita or by TCS NQT. These two things are the events which are held by the TCS for the selection process. In this article, I will be sharing my experience of the TCS selection process.

I participated in the TCS NQT (National Qualifier Test) event which is a national level exam held by the TCS. The TCS selection process generally comprises of 2 rounds. The first round is the NQT and the second round is the interview process.

ROUND 1: TCS NQT Exam

This exam consists of 4 sections, which are Verbal, Quantitative, Programming concepts, and Coding.

In the verbal, Quantitative and programming concepts, there will be MCQs type question. Some questions will have options given while some questions there will be no options given. So, the questions with no options will not have any negative marking.

1) QUANTITATIVE:

Try to solve the questions which have no options in the quantitative section, because those questions are sometimes very easy to solve. Along with the easy questions, there will be questions with higher difficulty level. Without spending much time on such questions, move on to other questions. Quantitative section was very strong for me. I attempted 13 questions out off 15, and was sure that 11 questions were correct.

NOTE: Attempt the question if you are sure about the answer, as it contains negative marking.

Some topics for Quantitative section are:

• Time, Speed and distance

• HCF and LCM

• Permutation and combination

• Profit and loss

• Time and work

• Percentages

• Calendar questions

2) VERBAL

One of the easiest sections is the verbal section. This section will consist of a passage which will have blanks in between in the passage. One have to fill that blanks with the articles (a, an, the) or some other words. The blanks will have a dropdown box, from that box one has to choose the appropriate option. I attempted all the questions and was sure that all the answers were correct from this section.

3) PROGRAMMING CONCEPTS

This section is similar to the Quantitative section. This section will consist of standard programming questions and few high level questions. Most questions are asked from C language, data structures, algorithms, etc. This section was tough for me and I attempted 6 questions out off 10.

4) CODING SECTION

This section consists of a programming question. One can write the program in any languages listed (C, C++, JAVA, and Python). There are some test cases which has to be passed in order to make the code complete. I was able to run only 1 test case out of 4.

NOTE: If you fail in coding section, then no need to worry. The one who will be able to clear the coding section along with the other sections with a decent marks, then he/she is qualified for TCS Digital which has a higher package.. If the coding section is not cleared, but the marks of the other sections were able to cross the cutoff of the exam, then one is qualified as TCS Ninja.

ROUND 2: TCS Ninja Interview

TCS took the interviews for the girls in the morning session and for the boys in the afternoon session. The interview was very easy to crack. The interview took place in the cafeteria like area, where a group of 3 interviewers were seating around a small round table. At a time atleast 30 interviews were going on. HR called out my name and I went for the interview.

They told me to have a seat and offered me tea, at that time, one should say “NO”, because you were there for the interview. So, I gently said no and they continued with the interview. First, they asked to introduce myself, then they asked about the name of the chairman and the CEO of the TCS. After that, they directly jumped to the projects that I had mentioned in the resume. They asked to describe about the project idea, why I had chosen that project and what were the technologies used. As, my project has to be build with the help of Blockchain technology, which is the latest technology, I told them about this technology and they were very much impressed. They told me that, “You are first one to speak about something new in the entire day”. They asked me more questions about Blockchain technology. As, we were doing research on that technology, I answered them all.

Then there were some questions related to OOPS concept. I had also made another project with the help of netbeans. So they asked questions related to the netbeans software like – “Which are the drivers in the netbeans?”. I gave accurate answers to all the questions. Then the HR started the personal questioning session. She asked me about my weaknesses, how I will handle a team as a leader, She also asked whether I am able to relocate or not. They were impressed with my way of answering the questions and I was pretty sure at that time that I will get selected by them.

TIP: While going for the interview, make sure that the resume is very simple, and mention only those languages and technologies of which you are aware of. Try to add a new technology in your resume, which will drag the attention of the interviewer towards you, and make sure that you do deep research on that technology

Result: Cleared
